City Palace, JaipurThe perfect marriage between the traditional Rajput and Mughal architecture is very conspicuous in the stunning City Palace, Jaipur. The palace is spread over one seventh of the area of the city. The peaceful gardens, captivating balconies, spacious courtyards, arches on pillars and decked up entrances of the palace contribute a lot in making it a place of tremendous tourist interest. The palace was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of the Kachhwaha clan of Rajputs. Later his successors also contributed a lot in making the palace more captivating by adding more apartments to it.


Some of the interesting apartments within the palace are:


Mubarak Mahal

It is also known as the 'Auspicious Palace' and was constructed by Maharaja Madho Singh II in the 19th century. Here you can see the textile section of the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum.


Diwan-I-Khas or 'Hall of Private Audience'

It is a beautiful hall decked with a double row of columns with a series of arches. The two largest silver vessels in the world are also displayed here.


Diwan-E-Aam or the 'Hall of Public Audience'

The interiors of this hall are embellished with bright red and gold work, Persian carpets, miniature paintings and astronomical manuscripts in Persian and Sanskrit languages.


Chandra Mahal or the 'Moon Palace'

This palace flaunts its amazing mirror work, floral decoration and paintings.


Sukh Niwas or the 'Hall of Rest'

It is the place where the Maharajas would dine at the beautiful glass dining table. The apartment is decorated with Mughal miniatures.


Shobha Niwas or the 'Hall of Beauty'

It is famous for its mirror work, walls embellished with blue tiled dadoes and gold leaf and mica ornamentation.


Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum

In the museum you will enjoy the sights of beautiful Rajasthani, Persian and Mughal paintings, costumes of the Kings and the Queens of Jaipur, carpets and ancient weapons.
