The Lake Palace on a large island in Lake Pichola, massive forts with stunning architecture, and beautiful temples, all attract visitors to this city in large numbers. The grand City Palace on the banks of the lake compliments the Lake Palace, along with the Sajjan Garh Palace, otherwise known as Monsoon Palace, on the hill above. The Kumbhalgarh fort and wildlife sanctuary are also easily accessible from Udaipur. Udaipur is also a centre for performing arts, craft and miniature paintings that are collectors’ items. Shilpgram, a crafts village is another attraction. It is a living ethnographic museum. The royal house of Udaipur had an excellent collection of vintage cars that are now on display. Udaipur has its own airport as well as rail link and is also connected by road. The climate is tolerably hot in summers and cool in winters. There are abundant luxury and heritage hotels beside budget and midrange hotels. Udaipur is on top of any itinerary for India and Rajasthan. |
